Character Name: Raven
Series: Rune Factory 3
Gender: Female
Age & Canon Point: Pre-Canon. Age not stated. Going with 18.
Requested Sponsor: Pearl or Amethyst
Entry position: Cadet
History: Wiki, but since it's not very substantial, I'll type a quick one up. Like most Rune Factory and Harvest Moon marriage candidates, her history is only vaguely outlined. Although I refer to Micah in both History and Personality, she has not met him at her canon point - references to him are simply because her history is told through Micah learning about it.
Where Raven came from isn't entirely clear, but it seems that she might not have originally been from Sharance - the fact she is half-monster supports this theory, as Sharance is largely anti-monster. She reports that she never had a family, but she has had a particularly close friend in the past, either in Sharance or close to it. However, when playing by the Icy Rosebush near the Vale River, that friend vanished right before her eyes. This event lead Raven to believe that she was cursed, and that if she became too close with anyone, they would vanish the same way.
She was taken in by Gaius, a dwarf who is the town blacksmith. Raven cares very much for Gaius, and claims he is like a father to her (to the surprise of Micah, who wonders why "father" rather than "brother"). She ended up taking care of him (as Gaius is prone to getting so absorbed in his work that he forgets to look after himself), and frequently running his shop for him. Raven also makes and sells accessories.
As Sharance is a small town community, everyone in Sharance knows Raven. However, she keeps her distance from most people, and hasn't made many real connections. She does have good friends, though, in two girls called Sofia and Karina.
Abilities & Physical Abnormalities: In combat, Raven uses a short sword and fire magic. She can also turn into a large, phoenix-like monster - in this form, she can fly, use her wings to blow her enemies away, and cast some major fireball spam.
Raven also doesn't really feel the temperature very much, whether it be hot or cold. She has had to ask "is it?" when told it was hot, while visiting the desert.
Personality: Raven is a quiet girl who comes off as very cold. She puts herself at a distance from most people, usually giving them brief and often snappy answers, giving off the air of impatience. This is mostly with people she is particularly unfamiliar with, though people she knows often get a similar treatment. Only a handful of people have really got to know her, though even Shara - who Raven is not especially close with - will tell Micah that she has a warm heart under all that.
That warm heart initially only really shows in the way she talks to and about monsters. She likes monsters, and doesn't really enjoy fighting them, though she does accept it is sometimes necessary. Typically, she will speak kindly and reassuringly to monsters, and seems to be a little upset when people go into dungeons just to fight.
Although she tries to keep her distance from people, however, she did manage to form solid friendships with others in the village. She understands her friends very well, and takes their oddities in stride - even Sofia's tendency to say the opposite of what she means doesn't strike Raven as strange.
Her strongest relationship, however, is with Gaius. Raven sees Gaius as a father figure, although it seems more than he relies on her than the other way around. They each have a strong understanding of how the other works, and Raven both looks up to and deeply cares for him. She runs the store, and if it weren't for her work ethic, it would probably collapse - Gaius treats his craft as a hobby, and would just give things away if left to his own devices. She can occasionally be a bit sneaky just to address some of his shortcomings, like ensuring he runs out of things to smith so that he doesn't forget to eat and sleep. She can sometimes miss the point, however - because she's very much work-oriented, at one point of the game, she fails to realise that Gaius just wanted Micah to collect some medicine, and assumed that he wanted Micah to help with the work while he was too sick to do it himself.
Raven doesn't really want to feel quite as alone as she does - yes, she has a few good friends, but it's the real close bonds she both tries to avoid and desperately wants. If she wants to see someone, she will use work as an excuse - collect this, come with me to deliver that (even if "we don't deliver" is one of her policies) - but, if she feels she's getting too close, she will tell them outright to stay away from her.
Raven has two major fears: losing those she is close to, and being rejected for being half-monster. She sees her monster form as "scary," and it's only by an involuntary transformation that she reveals it to Micah. Prior to that, she had only taken that form to rescue him. It is only really shown how the feels about it in relation to Micah, in-game - it's not clear who, if anyone else, even knows about it.
She also doesn't like scary stories, and especially hates skulls. Naturally, her friends tease her about it, but this is pretty minor.
What are your plans for the character in-game? Oh, Raven will largely be antisocial, but she does enjoy making accessories - you know, rings, handknits, stuff like that. She might take it on herself to sell this stuff.
Anything else? Hmm... no :)
